On Thursday, Nov. 9, ten students from four Itasca Area Schools Collaborative (IASC) high schools and twelve Minnesota North College Class Act students toured Bigfork School as part of a career-connected experience coordinated by the Class Act Program at Minnesota North College.

Students were able to observe various levels of classroom instruction at different levels from Pre-K through high school and in various academic content areas. Bigfork School Principal, Ken Decoster, shared thoughts about the field of education with students during lunch. He discussed the demographics of a rural school as well as highlighting current topics in education, and he even shared some tips for students looking to receive a job offer in teaching.

Site tours are an important part of building a strong education career workforce for the future. A special thank you goes out to Class Act Coordinator, Anna Francisco, for all her time and effort planning this event. Also, thanks to Bigfork School staff for hosting the tour, as well as all the IASC Education Pathway Teachers who helped provide this valuable experience for students in the IASC NEXT Education Career Pathway. Finally, thank you to True North Stars Perkins Grant for helping cover transportation costs associated with this event.
